My creative practice is multifaceted, having studied Fine Art, Graphic Design, Illustration and Art Education as well as working in Web and Interactive Design for many years. My art tends to focus on observations of the everyday through sculpture, installation, paint and drawing often creating a narrative of one kind or another.

Exploration of our surroundings is vitally important to my practice, working within constraints and utilising ‘boredom’ is something I consider very valuable to the creative process. It is often in the quiet moment that the most interesting work germinates.

From the design side of my practice, I draw on similar areas of interest, opportunities for connection and storytelling but with the addition of practical application. I am interested in human-centered design. It is this functional, empathetic approach to design work and creativity that I find very exciting. I also find the restrictions, limitations and deadlines are all things I quite enjoy when making design work. It helps to focus my mind, and it is when I am most creative.

I have chosen a selection of art projects to display below. To view my design work click on the ‘Design’ tab in the menu above.

Change Lab 2020

Installation photograph of Cancel Culture, NCAD Gallery, 2020

A collaborative project with Trudy Feighery, Eimear Dolan and Elayne Adamczyk Harrington as part of Change Lab 2020, NCAD Gallery, Dublin 8.

Through investigation of cancel culture stories, articles and instances our collaborative group focused on the impact of such cancelling to the cancelee. Does the fear of judgement impede young people’s voices?

We engaged with Carl Óg, a spoken word artist from Dublin whom we asked to create a written piece about Cancel Culture. Our final work for exhibition was a series of works on paper which float in the gallery space alongside our research enquiries on the wall. Accompanying this work is the audio production of Carl Óg performing his poem.

Better on the shelf than in the wrong Cupboard

Collaborative installation by Hannah Doyle and Michael Murphy

Exploring the idea of the artistic processes of creating and combining ideas, aesthetics, visual experience methods and obsessions, Hannah Doyle and Michael Murphy, two artists of the Moxie Dublin art group present their first collaborative installation 'Its Better on the shelf than in the wrong cupboard'.

Doyle and Murphy create a unified collaborative installation that stems from their individual practices as they converse and fabricate over the period of a week. This takes place in their studios and in the gallery space. Using both conceptual and visual methodologies combined, they intend to display work that is concerned with process, curiosity and aesthetics. Obsessional habits being a focus for the work.

Venue: The Lab, Foley Street, Dublin 1
Date: 2nd February-24th February 2007

Drawing the everyday

My work often reflects on points of connection and communication. I record my surroundings and everyday moments that I want to remember. I always keep a notebook handy for drawing, writing notes, ideas and working out problems.
